Dedicated on July 16th, 2002, the Irish Hunger Memorial is a rooftop garden
designed by artist Brian Tolle, the landscape architect Gail Wittwer-Laird, and
1100 Architect, in memory of the Great Irish Famine of 1845 to 1852, when millions
perished as the potato crops failed, driving a massive exodus, most notably
to America. The IHMG, overlooking the Hudson River, also provides an
upward-winding meditation walk and space of prayer for the millions
of people who suffer hunger around the world today.
