Quilt Notes: ARABIC LATTICE, utilizing a traditional Arabic design, is illustrated with piecing diagram and full pattern templates in CARRIE HALL BLOCKS: Over 800 Historical Patterns, by Bettina Havig, American Quilter's Society, 1999. The design was illustrated in the Nancy Cabot column in the Chicago Daily Tribune, September 24, 1934, where Cabot says it was first pieced in 1880. For another Escher-like positive-negative design, see PUDDING & PIE. The Carrie Hall block shown above is a 4-patch block, with each individual patch drafted on a 20 x 20 grid.
