Maggie Malone's 5,500 QUILT BLOCK DESIGNS lists no less than eleven quilt patterns with this same title. However this version of WEDDING RING dates back to the Ladies Art Company Catalogue (#48) published in the late 19th century, so at least it has a pedigree. Nancy Cabot later included the design in her
Chicago Tribune quilt column (see illustrated left) on September 5, 1934. Her comments state the following:
"Wedding Ring" is a new and popular quilt pattern. By new, it is meant that it is about fifty years old. The simplicity of the design and the color arrangement constitute its outstanding charm. The plain needlework is another attractive feature, especially for the beginning quilter."
Cabot points to the simplicity of the block, but the more simple the geometry, the more complex the pieced fabrics can be. More quilt designs with romantic or mystical love themes at this site would include:
